I know a lot of great movies get trashed by critics. I know a lot of movies do better on Video/streaming than they do at theaters. I know the popcorn score on this is still 90% on RT because I checked after seeing Wicked today & was checking it's score (98% popcorn. I would put it far lower. I did not enjoy it at all. Soulless mass market product for my money) I was talking about box office, not your personal likes or dislikes. Red One had a $250 million budget and $100 million plus spent on marketing. This needs at least $600 million to break even, which won't happen. So yeah it's a flop. How do streaming titles that don't get theatrical release break even? Apparently Amazon only wants the marketing money ($100 million) covered

It's crazy
And more difficult than ever to figure out the financing. Netflix is dropping more money on things than some studios.
You mentioned a title awhile back .....but I I was shocked the only reason it wasn't considered a good movie, is because it cost so damn much to make it barely broke even.

Streaming is insane. I do not get the money dropped on it John Carter was one. Interesting film, but the director went crazy on the budget. Red One is a nice Xmas socialism. Spirit. Damn Apparently The Rock drove the production costs up showing up late to shooting It feels like the Hollywood Press has turned on him He had a good guy image for awhile, but now they seem to want all his stuff to fail. They are going after Chris Evans as well. Accusing him of slumming/not trying to act. Sis sent a link to an article where he said he wanted to do a musical. I remember when Captain America came out it was mentioned the studio had a problem with stunt people matching his running style because he had a dance theater history which somehow played into his running style. All it takes is one perceived flop or too much success & the claws come out. I am reminded about music critics. It was mentioned in a Creem article I read that a lot of rock music critics are musicians whose bands never took off, suggesting resentment bubbling under the surface. I know Roger Ebert wrote a film script or 2...

You'd think more actors would go the 'Percentage' route? Accept a smaller fee upfront.......and then get a portion of the film's success. If it fails, too bad, so sad for everyone then.
It's been said the same for building inspectors........failed builders who are pissy and nitpicking legit builders who can stay in business.
How can anyone be a real critic, though? It's all subjective taste. So unless you know enough about that critic to know if their taste is like yours, it's still a stab in the dark taking their opinion for anything. Gene Shalit and that stupid looking mustache? Ughh Ru Paul and fashion sense? no thanks

Johnson already has two big flops which killed franchises like Jungle Cruise and Black Adam. You may like his films but he mainly makes crappy films. And the audiences now getting aware of his crap films. Also, box office doesn't equal quality. Going by your logic Tyler Perry's Madea's films are the greatest films because they make money or the Transformers films or the Fast and the Furious films. You're dumb.

The Rock got $50 mill for this (another reason the press wants it to fail) specifically because it was headed to streaming so there was no expected box office, thus no percentage take possible.

I have been following movies since the 70s. How long you been at it? Go on believing jealousy plays no part. The Creem article in question was on Kiss, specifically mentioning a review that said the band should have been pumping gas long ago, not still putting records out (Unmasked review) Remember Creem? Lester Bangs? Hit Parader? Remember Starlog? Fangoria?
