Disagree with this: "The Allies would probably not have been able to succeed in Normandy if the Soviets hadn't already done so much."
The German fighting army was moved to the eastern front. No way they would have got back to France in a short enough time to make any difference to the Normandy invasion.

Agree, although you could say the Russians took up German manpower that could have been otherwise used in Normandy. Whilst we can only be glad of the sacrifice of so many soviet troops it does have to be remembered that Stalin was quite happy to throw everyone else under the bus before Germany shafted him. Also Russian troops were shot immediately if they tried to desert or draw back. If Russia had been a western democratic nation like the UK or America there is a good argument to be made that they would have been defeated. It was only the inhumane treatment of Russian troops by their own leaders that allowed the victory.
