In Louisiana the majority wants sports gambling. But the moral minority says, "No, gambling is a vice." So the whole state is missing out on millions of revenue because a minority of conservatives is telling others how to live.
That is not Constitutional. It's not American. ------------
In Washington DC the Republicans won't compromise. They blocked everything Obama and the Democrats wanted. And they are still blocking all Democratic initiatives.
It's either their way or no way. -----------
The funny thing is, Mississippi has legalized sports gambling. They are making millions. Louisianans are just driving to Mississippi to gamble.
The religious right says, "Gambling leads to a gambling addiction and financial ruin." Louisianans are still gambling. But instead of having the money from sports gambling to treat gambling addiction, there is none. So we have all the downside. And none of the upside.
How stupid is that? -------------
What do you think?

It's stupid not to compromise on this, but I don't see how it's not constitutional.

The entire Republican brand is capitulation. They apologize for everything. 5 years from now, Republicans will be fully on board with transsexual child abuse in the library while the Left moves beyond to something even more degenerate.
This is why so many people are angry and vote for Trump. It's a lie that Republicans ever stood up to Obama. They were 100% on board with everything he did from the bank bailouts to the foreign wars to DACA to global warming regulation, to even the budget in general. John McCain voted against Obamacare all 50 times until the one time it actually mattered. The media has been peddling this myth of Republican obstructionism as if both parties don't have the same agenda.
Mississippi is the poorest state in the country. They are NOT "making millions". Some giant corporation is, probably Sheldon Adelson, a Republican. You're not in on the action. That's what you're upset about. You hate poor people. You want to use them as an excuse to have even more money thrown to your cronies in Club Med. Tell me what dose of Ritalin cures "gambling addiction". You just made that up and you know it. Don't expect everyone in Louisiana to roll over when you wage your class warfare against them.

It's stupid not to compromise on this, but I don't see how it's not constitutional. Republicans tried to make birth control pills available over the counter without a prescription. Democrats said no.

It's stupid not to compromise on this, but I don't see how it's not constitutional. It's UnConstitutional to tell others how to live. That is the only reason the moral minority is voting against sports betting.

That's the second time you've claimed something was in the constitution that isn't in the constitution. Quote the part that says you can't tell others how to live. What the hell do you think laws and regulations are for? I guess we can all beat the shit out of our kids and make them sleep in the yard with the dogs cause that's how we live. Maybe you should just read the constitution, they sell copies at barnes and noble for a dollar. The spirit of the Constitution is; you can do anything you want as long as you do not infringe on the Rights of others. Apparently not. The moral majority thinks they have the right to tell people, "You cannot do what you want, because we think it is bad." Gambling doesn't hurt those who don't gamble. It actually helps them by bringing in tax dollars for the whole state to use and enjoy.

Right wingers take a shit on the spirit of the constitution and then use the actual constitution to wipe their ass afterward. I don't necessarily disagree with your op, but it's for the representatives you elect to represent you to decide. If they decide against what the majority wants then elect different representatives. That's how it supposed to happen, but rarely do those npd ridden demons get replaced for some odd reason. Maybe not as many people as you think want it legal, why don't you move to mississippi. Vice cops are scum. I never got to go to mardi gras or to any riverboat casinos when i lived there, was always on call. We had to be close enough to the base in case were gonna go blow up stuff, were supposed to be in country within 24 hours or something like that. I agree it ultimately falls on the people. They keep voting these people in. And they are the only ones who can say. "Stop with all the pettiness. We want infrastructure improvements." Hell, half the eligible voters in this country don't even vote. (And half of them don't even know the three branches of government.)

If there is supposed to be a separation between church and state in the US then how are things allowed to be overruled for what are strictly moral, religious reasons?

If there is supposed to be a separation between church and state in the US then how are things allowed to be overruled for what are strictly moral, religious reasons? The religious or moral right either has more votes, or more money, or more influence. But you are correct. They are doing things for the wrong reasons. Essentially telling others how they should live based on their religious or moral beliefs.

Apart from all the imports who are hellbent on taking us backwards on human and animal rights, as fully supported by the left.

But their political influence is on the decline. Mainly because liberals are looking for solace in the face of a Trump administration and Repliblican control of the Senate. But they understand the separation of church and state. Louisiana is not the United States. Neither is The South. The South is generally more religious, less educated and less progressive than the rest of the country.

Here we go again, when in the last ten years have the right lowered immigration or put in place legislation to end Halal and Kosher animal slaughter practices. You remember the right? The ones in power who can do things rather than the left opposition who can't.
