I've been searching for this one forever. Going off a very old memory, but I believe the young woman (teens or early-20s) was either coerced or outright forced to marry an older man. The movie must span a number of years, because the scene I most remember takes place when she is older (maybe 30s or 40s). In an argument with the man about her regrets marrying him, she angrily says the line, "All I wanted was a bowl of rice!". (I don't recall the precise context of the line.)
It's NOT the Joy Luck Club, which has been suggested a couple of times when I've searched elsewhere. I even re-watched that movie to see if the scene is in it, and it's not.
Some details that might help:
*Set in an East Asian country.
*Though the movie had an Asian cast, I remember the language spoken being English with an Asian accent.
*I saw it on American television in the early- to -mid-90s.
*Piggybacking off of the last point, it's possible it was a made-for-TV movie.

Sounds almost like My Little Bride (2004).

Sounds almost like My Little Bride (2004). Definitely way too late to be the one I'm looking for. I recall the place I was living at the time, and my family moved form there around 1995. Thanks, though.
