Cobra are similar to the Wagner Group. So there is a real-world context. MASK has massive potential. It has elements of X-Men, Transformers, Fast & Furious and Iron Man. The vehicles have practical functions: street legal civilian machines that convert to heavy artillery and flight capability. It’s not as silly as the conceit behind the Transformers premise. The villains could pull off heists or terrorism in cars and change to planes and tanks mid-chase. And even without the vehicles the MASKS themselves are interesting. They all contain different powers like telekinesis and lasers so they could have super-powered battles. The leaders of each faction kind of have a Tony Stark/ Jebediah Stane relationship. MASK just makes so much sense as a blockbuster. Not sure how the Transformers is deemed silly when they were created as toys that transform in the first place. It's meant to be silly that's the point.

I guess the director for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts still has plans.

Did you see it? I didn't, but the tone looks similar to the Bay movies and I'd like to see something more polished for a Joes crossover.

The first movie had promise but eventually sucked because they made the Joe's these powered armor robocop wannabe's. Plus Cobra Commander sucked and Channing doesn't make for a charismatic action lead.
The 2nd movie was better but they focused too much on The Rock without actually developing the other characters. GI Joe is supposed to be an ensemble movie.
Snake Eyes wasn't even close to being a GI Joe movie.
In the end, the formula for making a successful GI Joe movie is simple: They need to embrace the source material, cast lead actors that are good actors but aren't so famous that they take over the movie, and simply concentrate on making a good GI Joe movie instead of trying to make it something else it isn't.

Henry Golding (Snake Eyes) said that producer Lorenzo Di Boneventura has "grand plans" for the series.

I'm honest to god surprised they never got Michael Bay to make a G.I Joe film. That seems like it would be more up his alley with the military stuff.
Might have spared us of all those terrible Transformers movies he plagued us with.
