Weather was reportedly light steady rain with low cloud and this prevented the presidential helicopter from traveling to the site, about 55 miles (80km) east of Paris on Saturday afternoon. He is the President of the United States. He has a schedule with commitments. Nicholas who?! I just searched and he's Winston Churchill's grandson. He would have gone if the helicopter was able to fly. Take #hesnotfittorepresenthisgreatcountry and stuff it. Even though Donald Trump is the Leader of the Free World he cannot prevent rain, low clouds and unsafe flying conditions. ZJABbHUgWESPHXMDbtdY

They don't have contingency plans for a President, based on the fact that in Europe it sometimes rains? What a well oiled machine.

Ben Rhodes ✔ @brhodes I helped plan all of President Obama’s trips for 8 years. There is always a rain option. Always.

It was raining with low clouds and poor visibility. Unsafe. He is on a tight schedule. People who hate Donald Trump will criticize everything he does and give him credit for nothing. Ben Rhodes ✔ @brhodes I helped plan all of President Obama’s trips for 8 years. There is always a rain option. Always. Sigh. Yes, Ben, there was a rain option. The rain option was don't go. I admit that the optics were poor, but this wasn't cancelling a meeting with a head of state. And there's no point in kidding ourselves into believing that, in an alternate timeline where DT went to the cemetery, there would have been no criticism and only reverence - the criticism would have merely taken another form. I could dream up some versions, but it's more fun for you to come up with your own. Heck, I'll even admit that, had this been Obama in the exact same scenario, the right would have been complaining just as loudly. It's what we all do now that passes for being politically engaged.

Your helicopters have flown all over Vietnam where it monsoon pisses down, and this helicopter can't take light rain? Okay, we didn't realise what a weakling your president is.

There must have been some way he could have attended. Could me more to it. I doubt Trump went all that way and just didn't feel like going because of a bit of rain.

He should have gone, but I'm more concerned about the future. I'm far more bothered by Macron proclaiming that "Nationalism is treason" than Trump not going to a cemetery.

No, I think Macron pretty much hit the nail on the head in saying that "Nationalism is treason". Considering Donald Trump's stance of war against Democrats over Democrats winning the House and a couple of state Governor positions. Then there is Trump's disturbing stance of being against NATO and free trade, brought about by Vladimir Putin's influence on Trump. Yes it is treason for Trump to be serving the interests of Vladimir Putin instead of serving the American people.
