Again. TEXT: Forget the planned MCU phases — Jodie Foster is calling out the entire “phase” of superhero movies reigning supreme. The “Nyad” actress and Oscar winner said during an Elle magazine cover story that she hopes superhero movies go the way of the dinosaur soon. “It’s a phase. It’s a phase that’s lasted a little too long for me, but it’s a phase, and I’ve seen so many different phases,” Foster said of her half-century-spanning career. “Hopefully people will be sick of it soon.” She added, “The good ones — like ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Black Panther,’ ‘The Matrix’ — I marvel at those movies, and I’m swept up in the entertainment of it, but that’s not why I became an actor. And those movies don’t change my life. Hopefully there’ll be room for everything else.” While “The Matrix” did spur a franchise, the film is not included in the Marvel or DC IP and was an original concept. Superhero fatigue is indeed real, as “The Marvels” is set to become the first MCU title to fall short of $100 million at the U.S. box office. The movie opened in theaters on November 10. Foster added that she is “OK with sacrificing a certain amount of success or access in order for me to have the life that I want,” and advised rising actors to look outside of franchise work as a whole. “You have to have faith in your talent. You can go away for two years and have a life and come back and there will be work for you,” Foster recalled sharing among her “maternal advice” to fellow stars. “Yeah, maybe it won’t be in some franchise, but what do you care? This is your life.” www.indiewire.com/news/general-news/jodie-foster-superhero-movies-phase-lasted-too-long-1234930762/

I'm a bit mixed, but with no easy route to get there. I don't agree with her advising rising actors to look outside franchises for work as a whole. She knows things I don't and can't, because she's Jodie Foster, but she's a movie star. Most actors aren't movie stars anymore. They're not being made the way they used to be. She's one. Plenty of others are, but most actors now will go anywhere and do anything. They're just celebrities now. It's a catch-all term. Actors looking for work will go anywhere. Franchises will use movie stars in big roles, but franchises are where new actors go to shine because it's a great opportunity to get your face out there and because it's cheap. When Star Wars needs a guard at one of its prisons in Andor, it's not going to hire a big name actor. It'll peruse young, nameless actors who want the work. Movie stars come with big price tags that studios don't want to pay. Bringing big names on board is no longer a guarantee of box office success, and a small army of young, hungry actors are proving they'll do just as well in certain roles than any established star. The days of the Tom Cruises' and Jack Nicholson's and Jodie Fosters' are more/less over. There's almost as few of them left as there are directors who'll work with them. Martin Scorsese brings them out. Wes Anderson brings them out. For the most part though, unknowns and celebrities are taking over the movie star game, and I would argue "movie stars" is the phase that's on its way out.

I would had used a clip of her ill-defined accent from Elysium.
