One of my recently (within the last 5 years) favorite books is TickTock by Dean Koontz.
It is at its core about the Asian-American life. Especially the first and second generations and holding on to the past while acclimating for the future. As a Chinese born American, I found it to be a great book and nothing about it was racist to me.
On Amazon it is 4.5 stars out of 5 so most people agree with me - both as entertaining and not insulting.
However there were a few who made such comments and one that actually addressed their comments:
the rebuttal
that's how fresh off the boat Asian moms are and how they talk and how they think.
nothing wrong with some honesty even if it is written by a white guy.
and i do wonder if it is non-Asians who are writing that they are so offended...well boo-hoo.
[giveup]

People are just too easily offended these days.

People are just too easily offended these days.
i listened to the 5 and a half hour abridged version read by famed Asian-American B. D. Wong 2 days ago. He did a damn good read.
then i found out there was a 9 and a half hour version read by Graham Halstead
i read some reviews complaining about a white guy reading out this unabridged audiobook about Vietnamese-Americans.
i mean it is a READING. i care more about the clarity and enunciating more so than ethnic precision.
and if B. D. Wong didn't want to read the unabridged version or wanted to be paid a lot more than Graham Halstead then we are where we are.
I am listening to the unabridged version now and Graham does a damn fine job as well.
