There's a plethora of Christmas songs that make artists a lot of money since they get played yearly but why isn't this the case with New Years?
U2 is the only one I can think of.

Nobody records new year songs because they'll only get played on 2 days of the year (NYE, NYD), whereas Christmas songs will get played for 6 weeks or so, so there is much more commercial appeal to an artist to record a Christmas song and not waste their time on a new year song.

You have a point though, sort of like my observations about last Christmas. Which I probably won't go into because Death Metal Bands would love to capitalize on some of those concepts. That is if they knew what those concepts were.
