You are speaking through an intercom to someone who is in a enclosed room which has no windows.
You can't see them and they can't see you.
You have 1 minute to explain to them which direction is left and which is right.
What do you say?

Nothing, because their left means nothing to me therefore I can't give them directions.
Idiot.

Why would I speak though an intercom? I have a mobile. Idiot. I don't doubt that you have a pay-as-you-go mobile, but in this puzzle, it's an intercom. If you were smart, you would be able to figure out why.

Seems no-one can figure this out.
Like the last puzzle I set.
I outsmart you! I outsmart you!

Has this person been locked in the room their entire life and had no experience with any common items, like a clock that could be used to reference direction? And have they never seen western writing to know that to read it you start on the left?

And have they never seen western writing to know that to read it you start on the left? There's nothing in the room and assume they are an alien person. You know nothing about them and they nothing about you. You don't even know which planet they are on. That's the whole point of this test - take away all artefacts and prior knowledge and see if you can still do it.

So how can I even communicate with them if they are an alien with no prior knowledge, like how to speak English? Because you can. I wouldn't get hung up on the specifics of the challenge. Decide for yourself what the minimum amount of knowledge, tools, history, whatever you & they would need to have for you to be able to explain left and right. You can choose to answer the question assuming you are on Earth, know where you are and can see the sunset, but that wouldn't be very impressive because anyone could do that. Instead, strip away as much as you can and figure out if you can do it. So, for example, if you figure out a way to do it where all you need is to be able to communicate in English, you should then ask yourself "what if we can't communicate in English?" and push yourself to devise a new solution.
