Three boxes - A, B and C. One has a prize, the other two are empty. You want the prize.
You select box A (but don't open it yet). You are allowed a sneak peak into any box before you finally decide which box to open.
Which box should you have a sneak peak into to maximise your chances of winning the prize and why?

You are allowed a sneak peak into any box before you finally decide which box to open. Which box should you have a sneak peak into to maximise your chances of winning the prize and why? You would choose to peek into box B or C. If it's not in that box, you should pick the other box you didn't select. You only have a 1/3 chance of winning by picking box A. You have a 2/3 chance of winning by picking the remaining box after peeking. That is to say, there are three scenarios here: Box A | Prize | Empty | Empty | Box B | Empty | Prize | Empty | Box C | Empty | Empty | Prize |
Once you've peeked, you've either already won or gained the information that the prize is not in that box. So the odds of winning by switching becomes 2/3:
|
| | | Keep Box A (1/3 chance) | Switch (2/3 chance) | Box A | Prize | Empty | Empty | Wins! | Loses | Box B | Empty | Prize | Empty | Loses | Wins! | Box C | Empty | Empty | Prize | Loses | Wins! |
This is actually an old probability puzzle but a good one. My gut still says 50/50 but the maths say otherwise-- which is why I suppose this question keeps getting refashioned and asked again. The intuitive answer does not align with the actual probabilities, which leads to confusion and conflict. Goodnight and much love.

You would choose to peek into box B or C. If it's not in that box, you should pick the other box you didn't select. Yup. It is, that is why I thought everyone here would get it straightaway (it's the three doors/one of them has a prize/the game show host opens one of the doors puzzle. I thought people would spot it immediately, so I changed it, but they are bit, hmmm, how to be polite here, 'interested in other things' round these parts, let's say (penis game, anus game, willy game etc). Even if you don't recognise it, it's easy to work out: Prob it's in box you chose = 1/3 So prob it's in either of the other two = 2/3 So look in one of those to narrow the 2/3 prob down to one box. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

If only there were YouTube videos that covered this. Nope. Monkey has bested us again with his galaxy brain thinking. Hell, some people might even call it the Monty Hall problem. You utter moron. Now think of a funny penis pun movie title. Exactly, you can't.
