Those things happen in the United States also.
Venezuela doesn't have the market cornered on crime, it isn't something that exclusively only happens there.
A little bit of common sense can save you from a world of hurt.
But you would be surprised how many people don't understand that.
The philosophy is best illustrated by the film "Empire Strikes Back".
Where Luke asks Yoda what is in the cave.
Yoda's response is "only what you take with you."
Which is essentially correct...
That lesson however, is lost on most people who fail to understand that
what ever situation they find themselves in, that situation rarely ever
consists of more than what they brought with them.
Hence the expression "if you go looking for trouble then you will find it, or it will find you."
And yes, carrying a weapon of any kind constitutes looking for trouble
because carrying a weapon on your person can only ever inevitably lead
to causing trouble where there might not have been any
if the temptation to use that weapon were not there.
So by carrying a weapon or fortifying your car or house with extravagant security
you only end up causing the very conflict which you had hoped to avoid in the first place.
Having those weapons and armored car and fence around the house is just like opening up your wallet
in public and flashing a handful of hundred dollar bills and yelling at the crowd
"I dare you all to come kick my ass and take all this money away from me!"
A lesson totally lost on rich people because apparently they don't know any better
than to go flashing their money around inciting the jealousy and anger of others.
