Anyone know a good (free) software for simple interactive graphics.
As simply as I can explain it, I want to be able to take simple maps (preferably pre-existing maps) that are just hollow outlines of counties within the state, and connect those to some basic spreadsheet data in such a way that you could hover the cursor over a given section of the map and a drop-down of info from the spreadsheet would be visible.
The map part of this is critical - it's pretty easy to come up with options that do exactly the same thing with pie charts, bar graphs, etc. I need to link a data base to essentially free-form line illustrations section by section, and it probably can't be a graphic that originates within the software.
All help appreciated, and we needed to inaugurate this forum, anyway.

I don't, but I'd suggest asking Bartlseby - he's a bit of a tech-head.

I know that if I had to do it, I'd manually draw an imagemap ( maschek.hu/imagemap/imgmap/), copy the HTML code, and then use Javascript to fetch and process the pertinent data when the user performs an action within a given area on the image or even just CSS to show or hide information dropboxes when a certain area is hovered over, depending on what I need to do. mapper.js ( www.netzgesta.de/mapper/) looks promising but I've never played around with it. That's all I've got for him.

^^^^ Say his name three times and he shall appear.
(Although sometimes once will do it.)
