I never drink anything but Turkish coffee when I am in TR. I am not a fan of baklava. It's too sweet. But a lot of people would die for it if it's fresh.

I get it at a Greek place called Gyro Cafe and it's good but very hard, almost impossible to cut up, are you supposed to pick it up with your fingers?

It is a pastry that you are supposed to eat with your hands. Unless you're one of these people:

Hnefahogg , ayatollah , You eat baklava with small forks. If it's fresh, it's soft enough to be cut through with metal.

The gyros tasted good to me, but this makes me wonder if they actually were what they were supposed to be. Maybe I just got some bad baklava. Just like Billy Hayes when he was trying to leave Istanbul.

If that was what you described it was, he would get stoned in Turkey.

They know that they have plenty of customers who know what it's supposed to taste like. I think I just got leftover stuff from an employee who didn't care, or was afraid to tell a customer he'd have to wait for fresh food to be prepared.
