When it was first on, I was hooked. Loved everything about season 1 but very quickly mid-way through season 2, I pretty much "lost" patience with the endless mysteries that went nowhere and gave up on it.
Then, years later, I decided to binge-watch the whole thing and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Having to wait for weekly episodes made the go-nowhere mysteries frustrating but watching at my own pace put an end to that. I breezed through the seasons and for the most part, had fun watching. It was all pretty dumb and meaningless in the end but entertaining regardless.
That all being said, the creators clearly made shit up as they went along. It seemed obvious from the off that the island was purgatory but everyone guessed this so quickly that they clearly panicked and tried to throw the audience off the scent by insinuating that the island was indeed a real place. Then... right at the end, they finally confirmed that yes, it was a purgatory, but you know, only at the very end. All the other stuff leading up to it was real.
Bullshit!
It was all purgatory but they so desperately wanted to mask that obvious truth that they took the show in a different, more mysterious gibberish direction. But that was purely for the sake of the thick-as-pig-shit fanboys who desperately wanted the show to be more profound than that.
It wasn't.

I spent a lot of time on the lost board at the imdb, it was a fun group. There was a guy who insisted the writers knew what they were doing from the word go. Balls.
