Just went off-trail, climbed a couple of hills. It was a bit chilly but nothing hot tea with honey and whiskey couldn't fix. Met some friends on the way...

Or from your pic., a good BBQ! It's a good thing he didn't see pigs. Why? There are pig farms in Israel.

It's a good thing he didn't see pigs. Why? There are pig farms in Israel. Not very kosher. Okay, I know most Jews in the U.S. don't give a whit and eat pork. But in Israel? I'm surprised pork would be common there.
I mean wasn't the whole point to create a Jewish state? What's the point of a Jewish state without Jewish law? Not only that, Muslim halal forbids pork. So most Palestinians don't eat it.

The whole point to create a Jewish state was and is to ensure the survival of the Jewish people. Nothing less, nothing more. When Antisemitism will stop being on the first or second place in every hate crime survey all across the civilized world, we can talk changes. Some religious laws were incorporated into the state law. A few were added later. And there are those who would like Israel to be fully compliant with the Halacha. But that's just politics - it's not what this country is about. Since the farms have existed for quite a while, I presume there was a demand for some pig-related products. But there are quite a few non-kosher shops which sell pork. Big chains even. I heard Israeli pigs eat mostly oranges. Could be an urban legend. From my experience local pork is not as juicy as the stuff I eat when I'm in Europe. But it's the same with cows. Not enough grasslands.

I would have thought pork would be rare there.
I have some strong disagreement that Israel was necessary for the survival of the Jewish people. They do quite well in the U.S. and Canada.

There are quite a lot of violent attacks on Jewish people here in London. And no, it's not by far right people.

Jews had been doing quite well in Germany. Until they weren't.

Jews had been doing quite well in Germany. Until they weren't. So you seriously think that Jews in the U.S. risk another holocaust unless they have the option to flee to Israel? Sorry, that's bullshit and everyone knows it. It's just an excuse to "fulfill" Biblical prophecy about the restoration of ancient Israel. God gives out land deeds! Sorry, I don't buy it.
Why were the Roma, the gypsies, not given a homeland if your reasoning about Jews and the holocaust are correct? What about homosexuals? They were targeted as well by the Nazis.
Sorry to turn a pleasant thread political, but your comments deserve a rebuttal.

No, I don't anticipate a wholesale slaughter of Jews in the US. But you might read up on what's been going on for a few years now. A lot of Jews don't advertise the fact they are Jewish. Synagogues in many cities have armed guards. Young Jews on campuses are harassed. The number of Antisemitic hate-crimes is through the roof. Violent attacks on Jews especially by minorities increased. This is something that is being sort of "shadow-banned" by the media. You only really hear about Jews being attacked by Nazis. Couple of years ago "Knock down a Jew" Tik-Tok game was a rage among the inner city Black youths. And so on and so forth... Big figures and politicians including members of the Congress are quite openly Antisemitic. So I can see a sizable number of Jews living the US if the trend continues. I can also see a possible future in which Jews are marginalized by the ruling ideology and unofficially possibly even by the state.

I can also see a possible future in which Jews are marginalized by the ruling ideology and unofficially possibly even by the state. In the U.S. with our democratic traditions I never see a point where Jews will be separated from society and relegated to a second class position again. One must remember, that even with Trump and his associations with the extreme right lunatic fringe and white supremacist groups, Jewish people were part of the Trump team. There's just no strong anti-Semitic force on the right anymore. The Christian fundamentalist right supports Israel as the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy.
So sure, there is anti-Semitism. But it's fringe and certainly no threat of Nazi-style proportions.
Seriously, the Jews I know have no intention of leaving their safe American homes because of a few idiots goosestepping in swastika armbands.
I'm just saying it's disingenuous to argue that Israel is the only force which prevents another Holocaust of Jews. In fact, Israel's presence, throughout the world, only creates anti-Semitic opposition, more so in Europe and the third world than the U.S. of course. I dare say, were there no Israel and no Palestinian conflict, there would be less anti-Semitism.
Israel was not founded to prevent the Jews from genocide. That's Zionist propaganda. It was founded as a homeland based on ancient Bible prophecy.
