This is Scalextric but anyone remember TCR (Total Control Racing) where you could make the cars change lanes? That was great.

Had a scalextric but became such a pain setting it up and taking it down (no doubt you had a special scalextrix wing in the house). had the figure of 8 one, ended up selling it off in bits at school for money to bnuy records, my parents went mental when they found out as was a big present back in those days.

Didn't have Scalextric but had TCR (as was implied above) in the TCR wing (a.k.a. parents' bedroom - no idea why it wasn't in mine).

It was good because you could change lanes and there was a slower jam car as an obstacle:

I think today is so different from the old days, kids get such massively expensive presents at will.My parents were what you'd call working class, but Dad being a printer earned fairly decent money and they weren't tight, but if I got a "big" present like a Scalextric set or a bike it was always a birthday/Xmas present and only makeweights with them. Must be why everyone is in such debt. My dad believed in saving up before you bought anything, an abiding memory is of him coming home with his wage packet (cash in brown envelope, back then) and he had tins for everything that he's spend ages putting different money in and would the exact amount in when the particular bill came due.

If your Dad did that, where did you get your borrow borrow borrow ideology from? I agree with him, by the way, and I don't want to get a mortgage. I'm saving up (for the last 10 years) to be able to but a place outright. Back to the Christmas stuff, my sister and I would always come down to the living room and under the tree would be a pile of blue presents and a pile of red presents. One year I got a mouse and she got a hamster. (Both male.) That was all fine but the next year they got us a female mouse and a female hamster. Big mistake. Those fuckers can get through the bars on cages because they want some. We had mice fucking everywhere.

Those fuckers can get through the bars on cages because they want some. We had mice fucking everywhere. All governments borrow, and it is sound economic strategy to borrow when interest rates are historically low to fund infrastructure projects that also boost that economy such as house building whilst also helping to keep employment high. Instead of cutting public services and then 10 years later having to employ thousands of new nurses and police offices and then train them again at huge expense to replace the ones you dumped on the scrapheap which was the Conservative approach. It does seem that finally many Conservatives saw the light and now have championed borrowing at low interest rates, which is something everyone else knew was the right thing to do more than a decade ago. Deciding as a government that borrowing is an ideological matter rather than an economic one (borrow when rates very low don't when high is hardly rocket science) is idiotic, you don't do it as a family because of massive APR's making it never a good thing or time. As far as house buying goes, you borrow as most people could never afford to save up the whole sum until they are in their late fifties, way past the time most people need the house to raise children. Most people require ten years of saving for the down payment alone.
