"Body Heat" on filmboards, not a single original thread in 5 years: filmboards.com/board/10082089/"Body Heat" on MovieChat, consistently active with over 20 new threads in the past year alone: moviechat.org/tt0082089/Body-Heat?page=1By comparison, filmboards is nothing but trolls and spammers on its busy GD. MovieChat is the only forum making real use of the IMDb legacy boards. I was frankly astonished by the comparison.

They've tried to incorporate the old IMDb movie chatrooms into a new version, but it never took off. Sad.

But since I've left filmboards, I've discovered MovieChat has done an excellent job of preserving the old boards and adding current and essential discussion. If you need to check out a film or an actor, I highly recommend MovieChat.

It is too bad they folded in early 2017.

I wasn't aware that IMDb hosted chatrooms. That’s what I call the individual “rooms” for each different movie. If I remember we could hop directly from IMDb’s data pages for each movie.

What new version never took off? MovieChat is doing a pretty good job.

Not like was. If I remember, each IMDb movie had its own title so it went like Movies > The Dark Knight > Thread. Rather than here, which is Movies > Thread. It organized all the threads for The Dark Knight in one spot rather than the threads competing with other movie threads.

Perhaps I should spend the next 18 years of my life setting up a separate board for each film that has ever existed. I mean, we have the traffic.

But there is no IMDb page. Because almost all movies have one, there was always a board even if no one posted to it. On Moviechats you have to creat the movie title. Anyway, who cares, it doesn’t matter.

Anyway, who cares, it doesn’t matter. Sure, it's not the same. But if you look at the upper right hand corner you can "view on IMDb" and it gives you a direct link. It's the next best thing.

That's its niche and why it's successful.
