Did you know the RMS Queen Mary was going to be called Victoria? Cunard Line named all their ships ending in -ia, and they thought Victoria would be perfect. Their big wigs visited George V to tell him and said "Your majesty we intend to name our newest liner after our greatest queen". George said "My wife will be delighted!" Nobody had the nerve to tell him, so they just named it Queen Mary. Did you know the QE2 is named after Queen Elizabeth I and not Queen Elizabeth II?

The "2" refers to it being the second ship named after her.

Yes, the full name of the ship is the Queen Elizabeth 2, not the Queen Elizabeth the Second. The first one sank in Hong Kong harbour, I think. MI5 have a secret base on the part-sunk wreck in The Man With The Golden Gun, I think.

Maybe your father then. You said he was a military man who'd immigrated to Britain. I don't want to pry I just thought it was interesting.

A prime minister is the head of the legislature, technically. He's not really the chief of state.
In the U.K. the Queen is the head of state while the Prime Minister is the head of government. In the U.S. the President is the head or chief of state. Government is not legislature. It's executive. Prime Minister is the head of executive, not legislature. The prime minister is generally also a member of a parliament. The Confederacy era presidents were direct members of Congress also. The Constitutional Congress came up with the executive branch concept. Keep in mind, this was extremely radical at the time.
