Yum!
From Kent, you know. Of course, we can't get the pickers these days due to Brexit, so the strawberries I just ate must have been imaginary.

This is Pleasant Conversation, fuhgettaboutit. It is an observation directed towards the anti-Brexit crowd who make up stories about us having food shortages because farmers can't get the cheap labour to pick the fruit. The whole place was stuffed with it. (Imaginary, of course.)

My Dad used to drag the whole family to a "pick your own" strawberry farm and we'd fill up a big ice cream tub with them. Trouble was we'd eat so many while doing it that no one could face them for days.

Well of course you can get them but it doesn't affect the fact that according to the pro Brexit farmers union there are tons of fruit rotting in the fields. Being reported in Tory papers too. If you can't accept that there is anything wrong with the poor ideological Brexit deal that was made we will never improve things. Urgently need higher quotas of overseas workers for the sector.

Actually, most of our strawberries are imported from Spain, Morocco and Israel, where they crop earlier and have plenty of cheap labour.
The problem with UK fruitpickers is the DHSS and HMRC. Time was when all the housewives would turn up with their children and earn a few useful bob, cash in hand. But now neither the Brew or the Revenue have much to do so they harass the mums and kids.
Sad stuff

The people who are doing it right now - hence how I got the strawberries in the shop. Your hokum about no labour is hokum.
