Actually, most of our strawberries are imported from Spain, Morocco and Israel, where they crop earlier and have plenty of cheap labour.
The problem with UK fruitpickers is the DHSS and HMRC. Time was when all the housewives would turn up with their children and earn a few useful bob, cash in hand. But now neither the Brew or the Revenue have much to do so they harass the mums and kids.
Sad stuff The strawbs I bought are from Kent. Maybe it's people waiting to be shipped to Rwanda. Of course you did Monkey

Kent, Malaga, Spain Ha! Double ha! Posh ass Sainsbury's strikes again with truly English strawberries. Were they less than $30? I kid. That's gauche. Don't answer. I told you this was political.

Who will do the back breaking manual labour and pick the fruit then? The English won't do it even when the wages are hiked as has been proven. The people who are doing it right now - hence how I got the strawberries in the shop. Your hokum about no labour is hokum. Not my "hookum", it's the stories from the Brexit supporting farmers.
