That’s in Limehouse according to Google. I was born and raised further east and only started exploring the area recently but we still had our local rag and bone men around that time. Here’s an earlier pic with that same church in the background.

Here’s an earlier pic with that same church in the background. We had the rag and bone man come up my street every Sunday morning, he used to sharpen our knives too. If his horse had a dump my old man would be out there with a shovel and stick it on the roses. My Nan used to have a great old "tramp" stop by every now and then too, whatever happened to "Tramps", sadly no more with us. Miss those great days.

We also had the knife sharpener but my dad was a chef and decided he could do it better. That didn’t stop my mum from using the service.

Makes me think of 'Steptoe And Son' for some reason.
'He rides on his horse and cart, Charlie does. Working from six until nine. Collecting old rags and used bicycles, Old iron of description of any kind. Here comes Charlie, Charlie the Ragman. Throw out your old clothes for Charlie and Fred. Earning a living off things we've discarded. Earning enough for the board and the bed. You hear him shout "Rags and old iron." Everyone knows him that way. Once a week, they come 'round calling. How long it's been, I can't say. They live all alone in a hovel. He puts his money away. Taking enough to just live on, And at the end of the day He's saving enough To put Fred out to graze. Has anyone seen Charlie lately? Charlie just ain't been around. Everyone's seen Fred is grazing, Chewing the grass from the ground. Children say Charlie is happy Giving balloons to the angels instead. Where is Charlie, Charlie the Ragman? Don't throw your clothes out ...'

"The Ragman's Son is the title of the first autobiography by actor Kirk Douglas, published in 1988. In this book, Douglas chronicles his life story, from his beginnings as the only son in a family of six girls born to a poor Jewish immigrant, to his lust to become an actor. He writes about studying drama at college, to getting his big break in Hollywood and of his later years where he jokingly remarks that he is now best known as the father of actor Michael Douglas. ...wiki"

Very conceited individual was KD.
