Isn't that just the first film? Anyway, all the chat on this thread re where some of the sequels went wrong just reaffirms my thoughts that Alien 3: Assembly Cut is actually the best follow up we got...

Well... at least they've disconnected the new movie from the Prometheus/Covenant story. I don't think that plot line can recover from the damage Damon Lindelof did.

I thought ever since the first Alien that the next Alien movie would have Ripley found hundreds of thousands of years later in a society where cats evolved to be the victors over aliens, and people would be pets to the cats.
I even thought it would be appropriate for the cats to have genotypes matching phenotypes, the way cats often do any way. The white cats would be hippies. The black cats would be afraid of everything and super cautious (black cats who aren't cautious of everything get run over today) The Siamese cats would be the cold hearted ones in charge. The tuxedo cats would be the ones who believe in helping the weak (which would be the humans in this brave new world). The orange cats would be the pacifists. The calico cats would be the jokers.
The cats would know the History of Ripley and her cat, and her cat would be operated on to make him advanced. I'm not sure how the language barrier would be broken. Probably archaeological work that would produce the English language in the first place among the cats.
The cats would be dominant over the aliens in any battle, but coexist with the aliens, and the "Senate" would be debating over whether to let humans be pets instead of fodder for the aliens.

Hopefully effeminate gay robots won't be creating flesh eating aliens in the next one.

During a recent panel at the DGA Latino Summit with Guillermo del Toro, the director of Alien: Romulus revealed Scott's reaction to the material he sent him (via ComicBook.com): "So I was like, 'There's no way I win this one.' I was gonna go there and sit at a table and look at him and get it. Even if he was gonna say, 'You destroyed my legacy,' I wanted to be in front of him and see him in the eye. I didn't want to get an email where it says 'Ridley says…' He walks into the room, and he did say, 'Fede, what can I say? It's f*****g great.' For me, it was like… My family knows it was one of the best moments of my life to have a master like him, who I admired so much, to even watch a movie I made – but particularly something like this…and talk to me for an hour about what he liked about it. One of the best compliments he said was, 'The dialogue is great. Are you the writer?' Yes!"

Sounds like the prequel to Aliens about what happened to those colonists/dimwits that decided to make a distant barren dark planet their home on the instruction of some nomark somewhere.
