I have multiple identities and have lived in both Sweden and the US—currently live in the US. I know it's strange to hear, but in other modern countries things don't just stop working all the time. Where I lived in Sweden we had snow all winter with no ice on the roads (the roads are heated) and the power never went out. Here in the US the power is constantly going out even without weather events (but especially with normal, predictable weather events because in my state the power grid hasn't been upgraded since the 1950s), Internet constantly going out, and people act like the climate of the US is constantly a surprise even though it's the climate of the US. Ice storms are not a surprise. What's odd is not adapting to them.

Underground electric service is more reliable except in areas where there are earthquakes or heavy flooding like Texas and California. However, only the very wealthy neighborhoods use underground electric and fiber optic internet services. Large areas of Texas still rely exclusively on either cell phone towers or satellite dishes for internet service. www.newsweek.com/texas-power-grid-failure-raises-questions-greg-abbott-1779037Texas has it's own independent power grid which was fine back in the 1970's and 1980's when there were fewer people in spite of Texas being about the size of France. However, with more people moving from California and New York to Texas the old power grid that hasn't really been updated much since 1990 can't keep up with the increased demand. The main focus in Texas is oil and gas production to the extent that Texas all by itself produces more in terms of GDP than the entire nation of Russia. www.forbes.com/sites/greatspeculations/2018/04/17/which-has-the-bigger-economy-texas-or-russia/?sh=23f921ab70b9You would think that with all that extra money verses a smaller population size than Russia that Texas could afford to improve it's infrastructure in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex and it's smaller surrounding cities. But Greg Abbott seems to want to sit on all the federal funding and not spend much or any of it. So that Texas has some of the worst roads in the nation, one of the worst power grids, and Texas has a long standing reputation for having one of the worst education systems in the nation. To the extent that jobs in other states don't want to hire people from Texas. www.kxan.com/news/education/texas-is-one-of-the-most-uneducated-states-in-the-u-s-study-says/www.moneygeek.com/insurance/auto/resources/most-deadly-roads-texas/

Two problems:
1. Investing in infrastructure is socialism. 2. Adapting is liberalism.

Two problems: 1. Investing in infrastructure is socialism. 2. Adapting is liberalism. 20% of the homes in Russia don't have indoor plumbing, so as much as Monkey hates the UK and enjoys pissing on the flag, if he heads for Putin's Paradise and feels the need to drive the big white bus, there is a one in five chance that the will be given a spade, a bus ticket and directions to the appropriate field

Two problems: 1. Investing in infrastructure is socialism. 2. Adapting is liberalism. I think we should go back to privatization of roads, bridges, and waterways. Just hold a big government auction. Put a transponder on the vehicles and charge everyone a buck off the debt card each time they cross the bridge. Driving on highways should be .50 cents a mile on regular roads, and 1.00/mile for interstates. I think they need to make breathing air a for profit thing too. And going to the bathroom. Put a coin box on the potty. Ten P a piss.

I took that as a criticism of Americas blindness to social improvement when it is branded as the dreaded socialism.

I have multiple identities and have lived in both Sweden and the US—currently live in the US. Multiple identities suggests that you are unsure as to who you are, where you actually live and why you are currently spending your life looking for a centrally heated motor way.

Even those in the United States who are well below the poverty line live in conditions that are better than the average person in Russia or the U.K. Good luck harvesting your own corn cobs to wipe your arse with in Russia when mostly all you are given is a tool slightly worse than this to do it with. Guess that is why Russia was trying to steal tractors and grain as spoils of war. www.cnn.com/2022/05/01/europe/russia-farm-vehicles-ukraine-disabled-melitopol-intl/index.htmlwww.cnn.com/2022/05/05/europe/russia-ukraine-grain-theft-cmd-intl/index.html
