My dear old mum would religiously collect these things and spend hours perusing the various bits of tat in the catalogue, the day we would trade them in was quite an event for her. Last shop I remember was in Croydon, just down the road from the world's greatest record store "Beanos", also sadly gone.

My dad used to own a car dealership in the 70s and would give out green shield stamps with every fill-up.
Needless to say, my own books of stamps were always full....

Did your mum get herself a sewing machine? No, she inherited an got Singer from my Gran, which then went to my sister. Proper old thing - probably worth something now.

Yep, my nan's one went through the line down to my sister. Was a piece of furniture and the machine swivelled under when not in use. Something like this.

In the States, we had S&H Green Stamps. It was so exciting when you filled a book. I remember getting, among other things, a toaster and a bathroom scale. That was more than a half century ago. It was so much easier to get excited back then.

It was so much easier to get excited back then. There were also Gold Bond stamps. I usually commandeered them and once I saved forever to get basketball and backboard set and my brother mounted to the carport.
