The Border (1982)
Finally picked it up on Blu-ray, and delivered much to my expectations along with a damn fine performance by Jack Nicholson. I guess a "slow burner" is a fitting way to describe it, as it sure pays off, and includes some gruesome action scenes, one I think has a bit of a resemblence with the later Wild at Heart (1990) and Willem Dafoe, just a damn brutal and nasty part, but couldn't happen to a "nicer" fella.
Anyway, I have a feeling it might climb up a bit with a later visit, but until then, I rate it with a:
8/10

Following (1998) - 7/10
Very experimental but it was quite solid for what Nolan was given to work with. I think it is my least favourite of his directed works overall but not bad.

Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death (1989). 5/10. Satirical commentary is actually better than expected, but not quite as funny as it wants to be.

I should probably give that another go, as I had it as part of a DVD set or collection, years ago. Comes with a promising cast, but I do not remember much beside it having Adrienne Barbeau and the "Tomato babe" from Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988) in it.

Kenny Begins (2009)
Typical impulse pick, which I think is a full length movie based upon a Swedish tv-series back in the late 90s. But well, it does start off in a goofy and kind of half fun manner, but realized it was not gonna be a Scandinavian Spaceballs (1987).
Anyway, it was kind of fun to see such a young Bill Skarsgård in one of the leads, while a few other familiar names shows up here and there. Might have gotten a bit more out of it, if I had seen the original series.
4,5/10

The Fabelmans. I don't expect much from Spielberg, as I don't think he's made a good, original film since the 1980s, but this got a Best Picture nomination, plus I generally enjoy movies about the love of films (Cinema Paradiso, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Matinee, etc.) but this was a dull, derivative borefest even for him. That this overlong piece of drivel got a Best Picture nod just shows how the Oscars have to kowtow to Spielberg. This was one of the worst films of 2022. 1/10.
For an entertaining semi-autobiographical movie about a kid who makes movies, try Son of Rambow instead. At least it's fun.

Mackenna's Gold (1969). 7.5/10. Entertaining mashup of an Indiana Jones styled plot within a typical western set-up.
