First in! ... And to mark the occasion of us getting a brand new Star Wars board, let us take a moment to reflect on what was the absolute worst entry into the franchise. Agreed.

It is the worst Star Wars movie.
And it had so much potential. Rian Johnson was given an excellent premise and completely, thoroughly ruined it and killed the saga.
But ultimately it is the fault of whoever greenlit the script. Probably Kathleen Kennedy.

Rian Johnson was given an excellent premise and completely, thoroughly ruined it and killed the saga. Agreed. I know some people like to blame JJ with his "mystery boxes" and yes, TFA wasn't perfect and the ANH rehash complaints may have some validity, but it was an acceptable way to bring Star Wars back. It did however need someone capable of delivering on its set-ups. Problem was Rian Johnson decided not only to ignore the set up of the previous movie but pretty much just ignored the entire concept of what Star Wars was and make his own thing - mostly seemingly for laughs. There was no way back from it.

I really hated it. One of my least favorite sequels.

I am not one of those people. Though I agree that TLJ was a terrible disappointment (with the exception of a few good moments), I will never forgive Episode III for the way it totally ignored history already established in Episode VI.

in 5 years it will be ironically good, though Rian Johnson ruined any potential Finn had You mean how like people pretend the prequels are good now? they aged well, they are not worse than most studio product now a days , won't say they are good, some fans that truly enjoy them probably watched clone wars cartoons

The prequels sucked but they kept the flame alive. Rian Johnson put it out and buried the ashes.

I don't count the prequels as being in the same continuity as the OT. Making this separation allows me to enjoy them (well at least AOTC and ROTS) for what they are.

Clone Wars definitely played a role in their resurgence. A lot of Lucas cultists love that show for sure.
I don't care if people like those movies. I had many conversations about them despite not liking them on IMDB for years. I care that I can't talk about Star Wars anymore without some loon ranting about Kennedy, Filoni and Favreau, or DiSnEY StAR WArS! These psycho control and sidetrack every conversation now. The sequels? Forget about that, you're not even allowed to talk about them. When the TV shows are good, it's because of Filoni and Favreau. Didn't like an episode or a show (Obi Wan and Boba Fett)? Oh, that's on Kennedy.

The prequels created soooo many holes and people try to defend them. And the Obi Wan/Vader showdown was a huge disappointment. I haven't watched the prequels in years. I gave up pretending I liked them.
I was always fairly in the middle on TLJ. I never loved it as much as critics or hated it as much as fans. It's my least favorite in that trilogy, but it's ok.

One criticism that doesn’t get brought up enough is just how derivative it is of ESB and RotJ. Its fans have always defended it for being bold but for all its polarizing subversiveness it also flat out steals story beats from the original movies. It is just as much of a rehash as Force Awakens was, only it completely fails to understand why the things it copies were originally succesful.
