First in! ... And to mark the occasion of us getting a brand new Star Wars board, let us take a moment to reflect on what was the absolute worst entry into the franchise.

Some really bad moments as well as some really good ones. I've softened on it over the years.
It's still not as good as any of the original six.

Some really bad moments as well as some really good ones. I've softened on it over the years. It's still not as good as any of the original six. I always fell pretty in the middle on this movie too. I never hated it as much as fans did and never loved it as much as critics did.
Things I liked:
1. Luke. He was human again. Not a fan of robot ROTJ era Luke. Too robotic and emotionless, a point further illustrated in Mando and BOBF. This guy has feelings and flaws. He was funny. Luke has never been funny. And his display of power is badass. Waaaaaay better than in mando.
2. The chase across space was both boring and exciting. The drama was kinda lame, but the premise of constantly being on the run and then Holdo's death was fucking awesome.
3. Everything in the throne room was awesome. How Ren realized he couldn't take Snoke, so had to sneak him. Totally caught the audience off-guard. People fucking gasped. The fight after was great too. Awesome shit.
4. Yoda was as great as ever. Back to how he should be, not all that flipping and prequel nonsense.
5. Signs of Poe emerging as a leader. He's a better character than Finn and glad he surpassed him.
Things I didn't like:
1. The throne room scene was awesome, but left the series without a villain (because they were hell-bent on redeeming Ren). People bitch about Palpatine? They had no choice, Johnson killed off the big bad in the 2nd leg of a trilogy.
2. Rey/Ren romance was totally out of the blue and unnecessary.
3. Casino Planet. Speaks for itself.
4. Rose and Finn; both individually and as a couple. Speaks for itself.
5. Space Mary Poppins.

Pretty much agree, though the entire space chase was meaningless to me. One of the most “what do we do with these characters until we actually need them?” desperation moves ever. As for the throne room stuff, I thought it was all perfect, even what it setup. Right after I saw it in theaters, I figured the idea was to make the new conflict be Kylo and his Knights of Ren vs The First Order led by Hux vs The Resistance. Johnson setup a really cool triangle of conflict. Even without that, I figured at the very least we’d just get Kylo as the full-on baddie. No higher-ups to have him on a leash. Instead we got a half-baked version of that in which Hux was a double-agent and Kylo eventually turns good, just like Vader did. Johnson setup plenty of cool ideas for the third movie imo. They just didn’t use them.

Rey hated Kylo. Then halfway through TLJ (during this scene) she suddenly cares about him? Bullshit. You walked out of that theater knowing she cared about him and they were gonna redeem him; both of which I hated. Though I will say I'm incredibly torn because as much as I am sick to death of redeeming villains, his scenes in TROS were excellent. I hated seeing that trope, but I did believe it because Ford and Driver did such a good job.

They were hinting at it, but that should’ve been part of the misdirection. There was no reason to retread the Vader arc, except that they didn’t have the nads to do something different. And, to each his own, but I really disliked the Good Kylo stuff in RoS. It felt so unearned and jarring.

in 5 years it will be ironically good, though Rian Johnson ruined any potential Finn had

i will say its fine if Rian Johnson wanted to discarded any of the lame storylines from Episode 7 , but he did not set them up with anything better , and surely nothing that would get a satisfying conclusion with one movie to wrap it up , wtf were they thinking

...though Rian Johnson ruined any potential Finn had True, although there is an argument that JJ had already established him as the idiot Jar Jar of the DT. But in this film - having him slipping about in that water spraying suit made him a joke within the first five minutes. Then - in what would have been a true subverting expectations moment - he wasn't even allowed to sacrifice himself.

They didn't hint at it in TLJ because they were trying to pull one over on us, his redemption was coming. I don't like it, but how it was executed was very well-done. You're right, it's not earned. I don't even like Vader's redemption. It's just the acting of it all is really good.

I don't know if it makes me a fool or not. But I don't see how this one is worse than the 2015 one.
That film was just, ugh. I mean this film sucks. But the one before it ugh.
