Would a United States of Europe be so bad?

Would a United States of Europe be so bad? In principle, I agree with it but in reality, I'm not so sure. I don't fancy saddling myself to the people who brought us fascism, communism and Nazism. They're all a bit misguided, let's say, on the continent and still show signs of just not getting it.

They did it all wrong; devised it in back rooms, told the people that they knew what was best for them. The mainlanders are still too eager to follow whoever says they know best. Isn't that what gets Europe into trouble? Blindly following the people who claim to know what's best. Hitler, Mussolini, Tito, Franco, the EU.

Hitler, Mussolini, Tito, Franco, the EU. Exactly, I voted leave to get Britain away from these specific people. You would think Brexit would have woken them up - the country that is the founder of modern democracy and freedom is saying 'no' to their union - you would think they would step back and say, "Hmm, if the Brits are expressing doubt - and they know a thing or two about this shit - maybe there is something wrong." But not a chance. Like you say, they blindly follow without question and ignore the will of the people because they know best. Tony Blair, for example, 100% believes he knows what is best for us. Maybe in 50 years they will have changed and we can come back to it, but I doubt it. Each generation seems to become more and more sheep-like as time passes.

They might not articulate it but they're definitely thinking it. Especially the smaller member states. They ballsed this up form the start.

True, and some of the eastern European countries don't seem too enamoured with it as they are on the muslim front line. Italy too. But the mainstays like Germany and France, I fear, will never change. It should have stayed as a trading union and not started to meddle in law.

The irony here of course being that the EU was theoretically established to stop wars between European states. The two states that almost always instigate these wars (competing for European prominence) is France and Germany. And who are the two major forces in the EU again?
