That is a great one. Gwyneth Paltrow's mom is in that, too. Columbo has some stinker episodes but most of them are past the mid-70s mark. The first four or so seasons are all good to great. Some people probably shit on the Johnny Cash episode but he and Columbo had good chemistry and are both charismatic, so those people can fuck off.

Gilligan's Island was this weekend on Catchy Comedy. (Formally Decades.)
I ended watching a few after not having watched in many years. Was fun all over again!
And of course it brings up the question of how or why did they manage to fit so much stuff on such a small boat for just a 3 hr. tour? Like all the girls and Mr. Howell's wardrobes! LOL

The Cassavetes episode is where he's the symphony conductor, right? That is a great one. Gwyneth Paltrow's mom is in that, too. Columbo has some stinker episodes but most of them are past the mid-70s mark. The first four or so seasons are all good to great. Some people probably shit on the Johnny Cash episode but he and Columbo had good chemistry and are both charismatic, so those people can fuck off. Yep. The best ones of all are with Jack Cassidy. I can't argue with that. Three of them, all good, two legendary. The best episode of Columbo is the one where Jack Cassidy played the illusionist. Now You See Me. It had all the great elements of Columbo in just the right portions. The execution of the crime is multi-faceted which makes it fun to predict how Columbo is going to solve the case. Columbo has multiple foils to contend with: The Great Santini (Cassidy), his well-meaning but off-base partner, and the new coat his wife bought him. Columbo shows off his awesome detective skills early on when he establishes why the body couldn't be where it was if the victim had let the killer in. In the best scene, Columbo traps Santini during his magic act. He wants to determine how well Santini can pick locks. After "volunteering" to get on stage, he challenges Santini to get out of a pair of handcuffs he had specially designed. This is easily the cruelest and most ingenious Columbo trap in the entire series. If Santini can't pick the lock, his reputation is ruined and he's a narcissist so he can't have that. If he can pick the lock, he's proven that he could have been the killer. And this doesn't even spoil the episode and how he catches the killer. There're a lot of funny moments in it, too. Columbo hating his new coat and trying to ditch it is funny on a meta level because the audience wants him to ditch it and go back to his old coat, too. I love the guy he's partnered with. (He was an earlier episode, too.) He's tracking down reasonable leads and doing detective work and truly respects Columbo, but Columbo is more of a force of nature than a detective and doesn't really want to deal with him. He already has his man. Watching them interact is great and you get a nice payoff for it at the end. Cassidy is slimy and slick as always. I thought he was better in the first episode but only because he interacted more with Falk directly. I thought they had good chemistry in a way that suited Columbo perfectly. An arrogant holier-than-thou type getting brought down by a guy who kept hard-boiled eggs in the pockets of his crumpled coat. Even Columbo's dog makes a cameo in that episode. It's got everything. Absolute fan favorite, 10/10 from me.
