A good news for a change! Sunak must restore opportunities for young Brits as EU calls for EU-UK youth mobility scheme www.bestforbritain.org/sunak_must_restore_opportunities_for_young_britsRishi, that would be so nice - but if You think that this isn't worth thinking about then I can think of the real reasons behind scrapping Erasmus (willful isolation...) Boy, oh boy! Public political discourse in Britain is so broken that even Labour doesn't dare to comment on that. :( Here Peter Foster on X If I was a Young Brit all politicians would seem to me having 'punchable faces' right at the moment...

Absurdity on repeat, newest news is that Brexit border checks will be delayed again UK will not ‘turn on’ post-Brexit checks of EU goods for fear of border delayswww.ft.com/content/ba197465-65d1-4745-80a6-d50a8d19ef48?shareType=nongift(can't read it at the moment bc of the pay wall, but the headline itself is striking enough) This is basically a permanent refusal to work on administration by the conservatives! Whether it's laziness, incompetence, denial of reality, or even strategy ("let's leave this mess to Labour as a punishment for the British population that does not want to reelect us again") or all together - it doesn't matter anymore. Both business and public should throw rotten eggs at the Tory headquarter and demand a General Election immediately! Meanwhile con home columnist John Oxley seems to have read Adorno ("es gibt kein richtiges Leben im falschen") and begs for Our party needs an honest debate about these 14 years, not ex-leaders polishing their records conservativehome.com/2024/04/18/john-oxley-our-party-needs-an-honest-debate-about-these-14-years-not-ex-leaders-polishing-their-records/

The Guardian writes about the impact on business Brexit plans in ‘complete disarray’ as EU import checks delayed, say businesses www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/apr/19/brexit-plans-eu-import-checks-businesses-trade-checks There are more voices, read the article - but let's see it sarcastically: as long as EU business is even more unclear about border checks than UK biz everything is groovy! And be sure to read until the part "an UK government spokeperson said" comes! Sorry, UK biz, if "incredibly challenging" and "unbelievable" are your sharpest arrows to shoot as loud voice then nothing will change - perhaps even under Labour.

And what about all the Israeli lobbyists in the main political parties. I will keep that topic out of the Brexit thread as Brexit was (AFAIK) not driven by that topic, there are Israeli lobbyists on both sides of the Channel.

interesting spin doctor preparation for the time after the next GE in the "Telegraph" by David Frost and Robert Jenrick We must get Brexit back on track, or risk Labour unravelling our biggest achievement archive.ph/2024.04.22-055934/https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/22/we-must-get-brexit-back-on-track-or-risk-labour-unravelling/ Frost and Jenrick admitting harsh truths... Me neither. If You pay the price then rightfully so. Ehm, no. Labour cannot "undo" Brexit. What Labour CAN do is starting defining the open questions that Brexit left and tackling these problems. Some of them are handled best in cooperation with the EU, others maybe not so much. If ANY coop with the EU is dismissed as BRINO bc it isn't hard enough then this is harming an honest public discourse right from the start. And what WAS the track? Would You finally define it, Mr. Frost? I won't cover every lie in that piece, there are simply too many. But here is an important snippet The biggest lie - Tories had no interest in investing in the domestic workforce. If Your intention really was upskilling Britons then You wouldn't fight a culture war against UK higher education (see Schnyder above) and You would accept the new proposals coming from the EU regarding Youth exchange.

now this is quite sensational! Terence Kealey: Brexit has never offered opportunities for our economy conservativehome.com/2024/04/24/terence-kealey-there-never-was-an-opportunity-of-brexit/I have no clue how long this is on conhome, so I do the rare thing - a full C&P - and I put it in spoiler!
What I do not understand though in Kealey's text is that I thought/remembered that the "Indo Pacific Tilt" the UK wanted to make some years ago was not so much about Russian and China but more about the "Tiger States" where more growth had been expected - and perhaps even offering them some protection regarding China and/or Russia. I once started a thread about it on imdb2 - but as You all know this is now LOST, so I CANNOT LOOK UP WHAT THE SOURCES WERE AT THAT TIME! The essay that is mentioned in the article is a pdf still accessible on IEA (Institute of Economic Affairs) A Blueprint for Britain: Openness not Isolationwww.iea.org.uk/sites/default/files/publications/files/Brexit%20Entry%20170_final_bio_web.pdf(about 70 pages) Important to know about the author: The question is how long this document stays there... ;)
Now here's the thing: #1 according to his self-description That means he is neither a political nor an economic expert. But as far as I can see all the sources he mentions are available. #2 The real sensation is not what Terence Kealey writes or whether what he writes is true (at least I guess so) :o The real sensation is that he was allowed to write it on conservative home !!! :o (:)) Something has happened behind closed curtains - but what? (:))
