Indeed, a good strong close relationship, but too much of a shit show to be part of. I read that peace and decided it's not worth for the Brexit thread, too much "wishful thinking" in it. Also it seems unconvincing to me that there has to be a war to revive EU-UK relationships. Far more reasonable arguments would be how to survive the dominance of the other big geopolitical actors. Forget the topic of growth. The others like the Pacific regions and Africa do have to catch up For us, in the EU, it is simply a matter of political and economical survival, of not being crushed. And for You it is even more. Though the war surely had impact on all of us, there surely was a disruption for the UK it was coming from this position UK government helped sanctioned Putin ally sue British journalistwww.opendemocracy.net/en/prigozhin-government-russia-ukraine-hack-libel-slapp/to reaching this position UK poised to label Wagner group terrorists as France urges EU to actwww.theguardian.com/world/2023/may/10/wagner-should-be-labelled-terrorist-group-france-tells-euthe real fight is not agaimst the EU, it's INSIDE the UK RIGHT NOW. And it's not about how "white the royal balcony is" It's about what Your core values are and who You want to side with. It's the fight of the ugly rest of the ERG trying to inflict their idea of the hardest Brexit to all of You - without scrutiny bc they do not dare to show You the real reasons - and telling everything else is BRINO. The UK has to find its soul now, urgently it has to find out what it really wants to be. And this search is going on right now! And I do guarantee You that next year You will regret not having payed attention enough what is going on behind the curtains. Regarding "too much of a shit show to be part of" Ehem, The UK is not in the position to claim that. The EU has problems, for sure, but I cannot pick any EU nation that is able to produce a "WeekinTory" scandal list of 50-100 tops per week. You never had reasoned about the real problems of the EU, You were too occupied with the lies on the EU in British media instead.

Brexit: Ministers to ditch deadline to scrap retained EU laws The government has ditched its plan for thousands of EU-era laws to expire automatically at the end of the year. The plan - dubbed a post-Brexit bonfire - would see laws that were copied over to the UK after Brexit vanish, unless specifically kept or replaced. Critics of the bill had voiced concern that it could lead to important legislation falling away by accident. But the climbdown is likely to trigger anger from Brexit-backing Conservative MPs and members of the House of Lords. Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch said the cut-off point would be replaced with a list of 600 laws the government wants to replace by the end of the year. In a statement, she said the change would be made through an amendment when the Retained EU Law Bill returns to Parliament next week. … Good news. Should stick JRM on the bonfire instead. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-65546319

Good, a moment of sanity: But strangely, the BBC did not mention the £4m deal with American-British law firm Hogan Lovells,so either the news coming from the "Independent" I linked to some days ago was wrong or the BBC doesn't want to tell the WHOLE truth. IMHO informing about the outsourcing of civil service work to a private firm affecting the legal framework of nearly all business in the UK should be obligatory for a public broadcaster! Here a thread about more details on the REUL update! I hope for You all that employers rights won't be reduced too much. "The Big Help Out" showed that that a society can do some really good stuff in their spare time! Millions of Britons invited to volunteer for coronation’s Big Help Outwww.theguardian.com/society/2023/may/08/millions-of-britons-invited-to-volunteer-for-coronation-big-help-outMy (German) local newspaper mentioned 52,000 events and about 6,000,000 people participating!

Needless to say I didn’t take part in the Big Help Out! I have no clue how it works in the UK but from my experience in Germany this is great fun and community building. In my case it's a yearly "delittering day" (organized by the city and fireworkers) on Fridays for school kids and Saturday for the adults. No extra day-off though. At the end all the participants get a free goulash and eat it together.

Leaving the EU was always going to include a lot of "roll overs" whether in laws or trade deals, just reflects that a lot was good among a lot that was bad as I've always said. It's the idiots who want to keep everything or throw everything away you have to watch out for, those idealists as we see on here are not interested in what's good or bad, just "winning" whatever that means.

It's the idiots who want to keep everything or throw everything away you have to watch out for, those idealists as we see on here are not interested in what's good or bad, just "winning" whatever that means. Though it's not quite as simple, a law might not be good or bad per se - the decision whether it's good or bad depends on what the nation wants to be. Sadly behind a paywall and the civil service has enough making the scapegoat for everything while their incompetent bosses gets exchanged more than once a year... Senior civil servants vote to take a stand against bullying from politicianswww.theguardian.com/society/2023/may/11/stop-acting-tough-with-officials-former-tory-politician-tells-ministersBravo!
Rules like not having to work more than 48h per week doesn't protect only the serfs being squeezed. It also protects the new lawyers in the big law firms, they call them the "New Qualified Solicitors" (NQ) who get a lot of money but are also expected to nearly have no private life anymore. my next post will about law firms ...
