Ticking all the boxes it used to. I have been toying with the idea of reviewing a series of movies here with the theme of American decline. This one was near the top of my list, went to the actual library and checked out the DVD. It is remarkable in certain ways, but quite formulaic as well. D-FENS is, after a fashion, a sort of proto-Trump voter (at least as seen by the left/media/establishment) twenty-three years before Trump. Note: read the signs, all the way through the flick, read the signs.

It is remarkable in certain ways, but quite formulaic as well. You are reviewing it from today. I saw it it when it first came out, cinema 1993, and there was nothing formulaic. It was excellent, unique, and different.

I saw it when it came in theaters, as well, but perhaps you are better at avoiding the pitfalls of retrospective. I agree that it's excellent and thoughtful, certainly genre-defying.

A great picture. And I bet nearly everyone watching sympathized with D FENS, even if he wasn't 100% in the right.
