I Liked Hillcoat's The Proposition, but wasn't much of a fan of his take on The Road. While pretty faithful to the book the movie felt tedious and depressing. Sure the book is downbeat, but so gorgeously written that the language transcends the plot. Now considering that Blood Meridian has en even more distinctive style, I'm not sure how he's going to pull it off.
I would've been curious to see James Franco's version (I liked the Disaster Artist a lot and found that he showed considerable talent as a director), but that's obviously not gonna happen.

I’m honestly surprised that this isn’t going to be directed by Denis Villeneuve.

I read about a quarter of the book. Maybe less. I’d only read The Road from McCarthy’s work, but I found BM to be a lot harder to follow than TR.
McCarthy’s style is inherently tough to grasp at first, but I got used to it fast with TR. I’ll have to give BM a try again soon.

Be great if it happens. Consider it his masterpiece. The role of The Judge is all important.

I liked them, especially the former. But his writing style can be grating. “The man walked into the room and sat in the chair and opened a beer and turned on the tv and watched a movie and got up and left the house and drove to the supermarket.” Not a real example, but pretty damn close to how he often writes sentences.

Then, of course, turns to dialogue without punctuation: It’s fine once you know. But the highly detailed, very deliberate writing eventually catches up. Ironically, I read The Road in one 8 hour sitting on a day off. It was tough but I really only think I did it because I crammed it all in.

John Logan has been hired to write it.
