I think he has an ethical obligation to address that person's existence in their family...but I can understand a reluctance to do that when people will inevitably refuse to respect that it is, in the end, a private family matter to contend with and not really the nation's business.
Decency IS a bit of a two-way street where this is concerned, in my opinion.
