Using the BBC Predictor one can see that England are actually better off finishing second to Belgium in the group. This is based on Germany finishing 2nd in their group of course (which is highly likely). Not only does that mean Brazil will play Germany in the last 16, it also means England's opponents on the quarter finals would either be Mexico or Switzerland/Serbia. The good news is Germany play before us so we'll know if finishing second is preferable. |

Sweden v Mexico is the important game. Will be interesting to see this play out. I can us drawing with Belgium and throwing punches in the last minute to come second on fair play.

I'm still not convinced Germany won't get knocked out. Despite the win, they still looked terrible at the back against Sweden.
But yeah, all things being equal, finishing second now looks preferable.

Well, it's official -- finishing 2nd is now massively preferable.
If you finish 2nd, you play either Japan or Colombia then in the quarter final you play either Sweden or Switzerland. Very winnable games.
So with that in mind, I fully expect England to... win the pissing group.
