Cap pistols. 45-rpm records Whitewall tires Only 3 channels on TV Black and White Television Party Lines Princess phones Flavored and colored water in wax shaped like bottles Big downtown movie palaces built in the 1920s or '30s. We got something like this from a jumble sale during the late 60s.

We got something like this from a jumble sale during the late 60s. We had a Dansette style one, was handy piling up 45s to play one after another, even if my dear old mum insisted on things like Rolf's "two little boys" and anything by Max Bygraves and Sasha Distell who she fancied.

The local cinema where we used to go for Saturday Morning Pictures was The Coronation in Manor Park, East London. It appears in the animated film Ethel and Ernest (2016) but the scene is set in the 1920s so a bit before my time.

Being quiet while the 'rents take long distance calls because they are "important" and the caller is charged by the minute Asking the phone operator to dial a number Weather reports, correct time and phone numbers found for FREE
78 RPM records
Cracker Jack Toys and more than a couple of peanuts in the mix
Ebbets Field and the Brookly Dodgers Steeplechase at Coney Island ... $1 covered a day's worth of rides Watching the twice weekly fireworks at Coney Island from five miles away
Milk and newspapers delivered to the door even to top floor apartments
Two and sometimes three daily mail deliveries at Christmas
Watching them build the Twin Towers and seeing the changing skyline of NYC
Hand written letters

New York Ferry (Manhattan / Staten Island ) for 5 cents .... and you could stay aboard and take as many round trips as you wanted. For another 5 cents there was the Brooklyn to Staten Island ferry ..since eliminated by the Verezanno-Narrows Bridge
