Just out of curiosity, may I ask why it would just be right-wing MAGA supporters who might wish to object to the makeover of THE LITTLE MERMAID? Or, for that matter, the changes made to the historical figure of Cleopatra in that recent historical "documentary" series? So you object to Triton only having 2 white daughters & the other 5 having darker skin tones? Do I? Where did I say that? I simply asked a question about why MAGA supporters should be the only people to possibly have an issue with changes made in the remake of THE LITTLE MERMAID. Unfortunately, a question of clarification on a point of interest seems to have been misinterpreted as a statement of support for something else. PS - Is it so difficult to just read a post and take it literally at face value? PPS - I'm not familiar with the original folktale, I've not seen the original film and I've no interest in seeing the remake. PPPS - I was simply asking a question about an assumption I encountered and wished to get some further clarification on the matter.

Yeah, you jump feet first in the Bond and Cleopatra threads, but you’re trying to claim I’m racist for calling out this MAGA BS? You can stop the projection because it only serves to relieve your conscience. Don’t try to mask your racism by calling me a racist. You MAGA posters (yes, you are a MAGA) have clearly revealed yourself. I stand by what I said on the Cleopatra thread. It wouldn't bother me a bit if she had been black, but she couldn't have been. She would have needed black ancestors for that, and she didn't have any. They're only changing her to black so they can push a modern political agenda of racial division. I don't remember participating in the Bond thread. Please post a link. If this is about James Bond being played by a non-white actor, I'll tell right now that I don't care. They can make him black, Pakistani, Chinese, or whatever (as long as he's suave and talks with a British accent). Getting the races reversed for historical figures bothers me more than fictional ones or that is just way more wrong. How ironic they have the ancestors of slaves playing slave owners in the play Hamilton. That is one reason why I will not see that POS. I don't get it where this bullshit woke need comes from or why it was started when everything was just fine and no one had a problem with how things were before. Now they have to have a token race in everything just to please, who exactly? Does anyone really care? The way thing are going they would put in a black and a hispanic in a remake of Birth of a Nation as Klan members

Disney has a live action remake problem. They are already planning to do it with Moana, which isn't even 7 years old yet!! They're being lazy, but they know the faithful Disney fanboys will flock to see it. A lot of people claim it is to know Keep the copyright. Before the film started there was an ad pitching Little Mermaid product on screen. Free shipping over $75! They are all about product. Memorabilia. Like Trump & his endless scams Or preachers selling their magic healing water or whatnot. George Lucas bragged he made more off toy sales than Star Wars. That doesn't explain the Moana live action movie though. Like I said, it's hasn't even been 7 years since that released. And I agree, Disney is a bunch of whores. Big time. But they used to be original whores with talent. That is fading away quickly. And I just love that they're losing the controlling rights over their iconic characters. Like Winnie the Pooh for example. I'm sure it pissed them off big time when the Winnie the Pooh horror movie came out to a huge success at the box office worldwide.

No, a Chinese or African mermaid wouldn't look like Ariel. Ariel is Northern European, so what do you think she would look like if she was real? Thor is a redhead. Gonna scream about that to Marvel? The only reason Disney made Ariel a redhead was they didn't want another blonde princess at the time. She is fictional. She could be green or Grey or blue skinned like other fish Disney didn't invent her....And she may be fictional, but so is Blade, shall we make him white?

Ariel isn't any human nationality or ethnicity. She's an underwater fantasy creature. She can be depicted in different ways without changing anything essential.

I've noticed YouTube is really pushing the new Little Mermaid movie, ads are everywhere, but then again I'm a racist with 3 kids, 2 daughters.

You only ever apply that logic to myth and folklore from Northern Europe. You would NEVER accept anything from Asian or African myth with a white actor. If "The Little Mermaid" came from Ghana and was remade with a white actress as Ariel, you lot would shit yourselves in rage.

PPPS - I was simply asking a question about an assumption I encountered and wished to get some further clarification on the matter. The original tale So Disney changed the story when they did it. Others were not enamored of Andersen's tale either. There have been many adaptations of the original story To be fair, it wasn't just MAGA who were bitching. It was the same sort of people who have been whining about any remaking of movies like Ghostbusters 2016. I was always taught these things are all adaptations. The Lord of the Rings movies so many love were adaptations of the books & did not cover everything the books did. Yet some out there complained about the Rings of Power adaptation that is exactly that-someone else presenting their idea of the story. Yet like this film, people were complaining without even seeing it. All one can do is see an adaptation or not. Once one sees it, one can agree with it or not. The maker has the right to make it. The viewer has the right to an opinion on the product if they see it. If not, one could say that is an opinion in itself, but they can't say good or bad. After I saw the film yesterday, I hit a Starbucks for a drink. The barista asked how my day was & I commented I had just seen the Little Mermaid & was feeling very positive because the film was much better than I expected & left me in a good mood. The woman(who was closer to my age than the usual barista) apologized & said she refused to see any of the remakes & hoped my day improved. As she handed me my drink & mentioned my alterations, she claimed there was rum in it. I thought this was a flavor syrup & said wait. She said it was a joke. Trying to make my day better when I had already said I had enjoyed the film. People.
