I guess it takes place in the Butler-verse alongside PLANE.

Gibson’s directing schedule is confusing to me. He’s got the sequel to The Passion apparently in pre-production, then he’s seemingly verbally committed to this one, Lethal Weapon 5, and that movie based off his girlfriend’s book (or maybe her script based off a book?).
He hasn’t directed since 2016 and now he’s gonna rip out four in the next three to four years? I have my doubts. I bet he’ll drop out of at least one of these.

Gibson is a crazy bigot, but when he is good his movies are marvellous and even the crap one fills an empty hour or so.

Apparently she directed that 'FATHER STU' movie that he and Wahlberg made together.

He's one of the greatest directors of all time, IMO. Apocalypto kicks so much ass. Braveheart, Hacksaw Ridge and The Passion of the Christ are great as well. He needs to direct more often. All of Gibson's films as a director have been passion projects and with the exception of The Man Without a Face, the rest of his films as a director have been period pieces. So, Flight Risk seems like an odd choice. I'll still watch it though.

In an interview, producer Alex Lebovici revealed that he initially met with Gibson about a different project. "It was funny," he explained. "So I came to Mel with a different project. And he's like, 'No, I don't want that project. I have one that I'm really excited about.' It's just so zany and wild and action packed and cool, and Mark is fantastic." Lebovici added that Flight Risk "is definitely different than anything he's ever done before. It's very intimate, very contained. I think he got into it during the pandemic, and just kind of like fell in love with it. And for good reason. It's just a wild and fun thrill ride, and we're excited for the world to see that one, too."
