Yay or nay?
Haven't seen it myself, hopefully I'll get to watch it soon.

Big fan of this (almost) all-star extravaganza.
The movie is neatly divided into three acts for its 149m running time, Choosing the dozen, training them and the mission. The grim story is interlaced with surprising bits of comedy.
The psychopathic Maggot to Lee Marvin: I'm the only good man in a world of evil people.
Major John Reisman: Posey, what did they lock you up for? I mean, what did you do? Samson Posey: I already told you that sir.
Major John Reisman: Well tell me again. I'm sure your friends over here would like to know too.
Samson Posey: This fella kept pushing me. I don't like to be pushed so I hit him.
Major John Reisman: Killed a man with your bare hands because he shoved you?
Samson Posey: I only hit him once.
Major John Reisman: Only hit him once. And drove his jawbone right through his brain because he pushed you.
It's totally engrossing from start to finish, with an explosive climax. Check it out first, and if you like it, go for the Blu-ray with lots of special features.

Mild yay. Not really one of my top '60s war movies but the last act is great.

Really good movie. It held up way better than I expected the last time I watched it. My dad showed it to me as a kid, but I remembered it being somewhat boring and cheesy.
It’s actually just a great time. It’s a popcorn war movie that still keeps the danger and horror of war present. The ensemble is great together. The action is energetic and surprisingly violent.
I definitely recommend checking it out if you can.

I watched films like 'The Magnificent Seven', 'The Great Escape' and 'The Dirty Dozen' every time they came on television as a kid. I think they taught me a lot about star power and familiarised me with certain actors, plus I enjoyed them more than the all-star historical and biblical epics. All-star murder mysteries I enjoyed too, like the Agatha Christie adaptations.

Big yay. A great film, marred only slightly by an occasionally too-whimsical music score.
“Franco goes in where the others have been.”

It's a perfect example of a "style over substance" movie.
Lots of fun. Just mindless action, and over the top war scenes. It looks like Germans can't hit the broad side of a barn, with about a dozen Germans falling for every American. But it's always acceptable to pick on Germans.
Mindless fun, great popcorn and coca cola movie. 7/10

A very mixed "yes" for me. I'm up and down with this movie, often from moment to moment. About half, maybe more, of the Dozen are almost nameless and faceless. In the final assault, their fates are completely botched, we call tell what their final fates are. The killing of the generals (and their wives and girlfriends!) probably break a half a dirty dozen Geneva rules of war.
Here is another approach to the movie. The year after it opened, I visited a friend and his wife from college. They were both studying for a religious vocation on a seminary campus. He was all enthused about "The Dirty Dozen," pointing out the leader with he 12 followers and the resemblance of the meal on the night before the mission to DaVinci's The Last Supper. I guess the atmosphere at a religious grad school encourages interpreting everything based on one's beliefs. On the other hand, he had a point about the Last Supper scene.
