This was the first Chuck Norris film I watched and as far as I'm concerned, it is still his best.
A nice blend of early 80's horror/slasher ambience and martial arts action. The sparse Texas town setting and the stone cold clinical medical establishment adds to the atmosphere, and the film manages to tweak up a fair amount of genuine suspense. The film has a tense violent undercurrent without being overtly graphic. I found it impressive on first viewing and feel it still holds up today.
The main antagonist Kirby, was a force to be reckoned with and he was a frightening presence that put many other masked or disfigured psycho maniacs of the era to shame. An exception being the scary cow human offspring in Tobe Hooper's subversive and atmospheric The Funhouse - '81.

I feel that Chuck Norris can be effective but he consistently chose bad scripts. Chuck is good when playing a laconic no-nonsense role. Silent Rage isn’t bad, but it’s not great. Chuck’s best is Missing in Action (1984).
