My girlfriend had never heard of this when I brought it up to her. So we looked it up to read about it.
Her theory is that it is either an old mine or the water washed things in from other places into the hole where they find things time to time.
I doubt there is any hidden treasure there. Pirates at the time did not have the digging machines that could dig all that deep and why would they bury something that difficult for them to retrieve later? I am not even sure if pirates burying treasure ever really did happen or if that is urban legend. Not when their treasure is always found on sunken ships. Why bury it when they could use it sooner than later?
There is a "reality" show but like other ones based on mysteries they are not finding anything and make a big deal over nothing that pertains to it.
Your thoughts on Oak Island. Do you think there is any hidden treasure there or not?

Based on what I know now, I think Captain William Kidd led the crew that constructed the pit there, and then he was found guilty on a false charge of piracy and hanged so that he could never talk about it.

Yeah it's another one of those, "The search for the ghost of Bigfoot in a pawn shop storage bin," bogus things. What about before the show? Who would have gained from that? I think those were genuine treasure seekers while these guys, as you point out, are making money from the ads and don't give a fuck if they don't find anything and are not expecting to. Who knows? Stuff they claim they found could have been planted or faked.

I've never cared for reality shows... or even "I wish this was reality" shows..
But... I do like The Curse Of Oak Island. It seems interesting.. and they do a good job making the mystery seem almost plausible.
And they finally got the narrator repeating everything as a question.
"Repeating everything?..... As a question?"
Or repeating the history of the one ex-slave guy who wound up buying half the island every time his name was mentioned.

It's not as bad as Skinwalker Ranch, at least Oak Island is plausible.

It's old legend that goes back to the late 18th century. A young Franklin Roosevelt lead one dig back in the day. One very interesting aspect is they found a Roman coin, a Roman-style weight measure, and a Medieval cross. While these could have been brought to the island anytime between the first European habitation until now, I suspect the Portuguese and other Europeans, like the former Vikings, were fishing for cod off the Grand Banks at least a half century before Columbus landed. These fishermen were bringing barrels of dried cod into Europe which would necessitate them landing somewhere to spread the catches out to dry and process.

Pilar, I haven't followed the story all the way through. Sure, some of the indigenous relics are fascinating. But I'm not seeing how the whole story comes together.

Do you think there is any treasure buried there or they find stuff that just somehow ended up there? Seems to me they could dig all the way down to the core and still not give up. "All we gotta do is get through the core. It's on the other side. It has to be. Hand me my asbestos suit."

If someone just made it look like something was there when there never was they are the ultimate troll. Men have lost their lives looking for it. One cannot get any higher troll dishonors that that!

Have you seen the size of road and ramps, there was serious weight being transported at some point on that island. Simple farmers were not doing that. And they keep bringing parts of a wooden ship from the swamp area too. But is there a grand treasure still buried there, I doubt it.

Sure, some of the indigenous relics are fascinating. But I'm not seeing how the whole story comes together. Whatever story there is has to be pieced together bit by bit over time. If this was a fishing depot used by Europeans before Columbus landed, this is more significant than a treasure. The legend of Hybrasil could be true.
