Marianne Deborah Williamson (born July 8, 1952) is an American author and political candidate. Williamson attended Pomona College in California where she studied theatre and philosophy before dropping out in 1973. She started her professional career as "Spiritual Leader" for the Church of Today, a Unity Church in Warren, Michigan. She became known as an author writing self-help books such as A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles in 1992, which became a New York Times Best Seller. She was launched into prominence by Oprah Winfrey, where she was a frequent guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show and became known as Oprah's "spiritual advisor".
