The Godfather, Part II. I wrote about this topic using this movie in an essay assignment in one of my English classes back in the days.

I learnt a lot from Franco Brusati's dark comedy 'Bread And Chocolate' (1974) which looks at immigrants who work the seasons serving wealthy people living (or staying) in Switzerland and their troubles, with an accent on Italy's clandestine labour relationship with Switzerland.
'Border Song' - Elton John
An insightful movie for issues played out here in the U K to this day is Jerzy Skolimowski's 'Moonlighting' (1982) which contrasts the Solidarity movement occurring in Poland with the lives of Polish builders working in England.
'The Immigrant' - Neil Sedaka

In America and Hester Street are two of my favorites, Rufus. I haven't seen Brooklyn or American Rhapsody, but I think I need to see both, especially Brooklyn. Don't know how I missed that one. Thanks for the recommendations.

Haven't seen either film, Petrolino, but I think I would very much enjoy both. Will see if I can find them. And thanks for the great songs. Lord, was Elton John ever that young? Oh, do I feel old!

Two old stagers doing their thing while standing up for the little guy ... Elton John loves Aretha Franklin's version of 'Border Song' ...
