They say you get more right-wing as you get older but i don't believe that; I think it's more the case that young people were never that liberal to begin with. They want to be cool and with the in-crowd and to be seen as having the right beliefs and opinions. They get sucked into it. Plus, of course, they have no real life experiences or responsibilities.
It's like that saying about the devil having all the best tunes. Liberals have all the best tunes too. They're cooler.
But then you grow up and have to pay the mortgage and raise the kids and survive whatever version of cancer you get. Suddenly, you stop giving a shit about being seen to have the right, groovy politics.
Being seen as the rebellious, the contrarian, the outsider, is predominantly a young persons' game. And here's the good news: liberalism has become so normalised in western culture that conservatism is slowly but surely establishing itself as the truly rebellious and anti-status quo movement. Yeah sure, governments are still conservative in nature but to pretend that culture isn't entirely balls deep in the groovy, right-on liberal ideology is total nonsense.
You should punch up, they say.
We are.

Pretty much what you say, but I do think people drift to the right as they get older.
Left-wing ideas sound great on paper, so young people buy into it, it's the easiest sale is the world - everyone is your friend, we'll all be nice to each other, free shit for everyone - brilliant.
Then along comes 'life' and 'human nature' and you start to realise it is unworkable and you/your family/your town/your region/your country/your continent comes first. Prioritisation is a natural part of survival - something that people don't have to do when they are young - and at that point, people suddenly stop being equal and instead become competitors.

They want a future that they won't get from the always more rad-right conservatism.

Possibly an over naive belief the world can be fair for all, usually gets replaced by self interest and greed once money becomes more of a factor in life. Those with healthy empathy for others retain the path and others adopt more of the "I'm all right Jack, fuck you" mentality. Most societies adopt a middle ground with a healthy safety net for health and survival levels of benefits whilst other societies such as the US take more of the social Darwinism approach.
