I was fired from a job years ago but was planning to leave anyway so I wasn't much fussed. In hindsight however, I realise the dismissal was almost certainly unfair and I probably could have gone to tribunal.
I had a look at the Citizens Advice Bureau the other day and apparently you can only make a claim for unfair dismissal within three months of being fired.
Why?
There must be countless people who are sacked but don't really think about whether it was actually justified or not (often too busy being traumatised by it, desperately seeking other employment before the rent is due, or just plain ignorant of what constitutes a good reason for being fired (or that they even have three months to do something about it)).
Why such a short window?

I'd guess the window is so short to prevent people from coming forward a year or two later to claim they were terminated unfairly. Your case is easier to prove the closer it is to the actual date of termination.
