She's currently attached to two films based off the book series.

Apparently her agent said she wants to become a big studio director for future projects. That’s a little bit surprising.

I'm not too optimistic about this.

I'm not too optimistic about this. It's an unexpected choice to direct it, I agree. Although I hope that Elizabeth Debicki plays the White Witch.

I just don't see an adaptation faithful to the spirit of books as something possible in today's climate. Especially on Netflix. I'm willing to be proven wrong, though....

"I haven't even really started wrapping my arms around it. But I'm properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start," Gerwig said. "I think when I'm scared, it's always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it'll be like, 'Okay. Maybe I shouldn't do that one.' No, I'm terrified of it. It's extraordinary. And so we'll see, I don't know." www.gamesradar.com/greta-gerwig-interview-narnia-movies/

She should go back to smaller budgets I reckon.
And acting in them. She’s an excellent actress imo.

Lewis wrote his series as an obvious Christian allegory. But I don’t see why the spirit of Jesus’ message can’t be filmed. The reason so many folks seem “anti-Christian” is not because of the religion per se, it’s the hypocrisy and outright danger of the Fundamentalist religionists that’s being opposed.

This is true in theory, the same way feminism is supposed to theoretically be for equality. But in reality, there are too many people who are too toxic to just stick with the technical terminology. If Narnia stays true to its Christian subtext, the movie will most likely get attacked simply for having a Christian subtext.

Do you think Christianity should be given special treatment?

For some people, that might be true, but there’s others out there that are simply antagonistic towards any Christian subtext in popular media even if the message is benign. Though it may backfire and draw more interest like with the Barbie movie.

Do you think Christianity should be given special treatment? It's not about what I think but rather what is reality. And the reality is that Christianity is one of the groups that regularly gets attacked and shown little respect in modern society. As for many Western narratives having a Christian context, can you name any widely successful movie in recent years with a Christian context?
