Anyone check this out?
I'm about half way through. It's ok. Nothing mind-blowing. Nitro still likes himself a lot. I didn't know this going into it, but wasn't shocked to read he's a producer since it focuses a lot on him. Not sure you can trust anything he says. Claimed he had a brief dating experience with Zap, but said it went nowhere because she choked him out with her thighs; which she said was a lie. He and Laser claim they got into a brawl once (no one around) after roid raging over the radio station in the former's car.
The story he told about his mom was sad, but needed to be fleshed out more. Wasn't real clear why his dad just suddenly took him away.
I am surprised Turbo wasn't in it. I remember him being pretty popular and having a temper.
Speaking of temper, this guy Titan supposedly chased a ref into the crowd. I don't remember him, but watching this documentary, I don't think I saw much of the first half of season 1. The show started getting popular in the 2nd half of the first season.
Ice looks hot for 60.
There was apparently a notorious competitor who was dirty as shit and was in prison at one point for smuggling people across the border:

Ok, so I finished it last night. It's pretty good overall. Brought back a lot of memories of certain games/events, gladiators, etc. that I ha forgotten. I forgot Nitro left and then came back as a host, but as soon as I saw clips remembered it. I remember being a kid and thinking why this dude who didn't seem all that old moved to being a host.
Seems like he and a few others tried to play hardball about getting raises and he, Gemini, Ice, and Zap tried to organize an unofficial alliance between the gladiators. A few others, who didn't seem to join their "union" also got fired.
Gemini and Blaze seem like the two most stable ones. A lot of them struggled with steroids, drugs, booze. A lot of them appear to still be close though I did notice Gemini and Blaze didn't seem to be in the group hangouts. Can't tell if that was coincidence or they aren't close with the group anymore (they all seemed to be very tight while filming).
The story of Ice landing the contestant that the guys were pining after was quite funny.

So after I finished, I've been gone down a rabbit hole. I started watching an episode of Ice's podcast. She reviews the ESPN doc:
I stopped watching because I had no idea who any of these people were she was talking about. I decided to watch the ESPON doc instead:
I thought the ESPN doc was great. It focused on who and how the show was created. The Netflix one mentioned almost nothing about the creation of the show because the big 4 (Nitro, Turbo, Ice, and Zap) are on bad terms with the creator (Johnny Ferraro). Ferrarro was an Elvis impersonator who was friends with a guy named Dan Carr (or Apache Dan Carr to some). Dan was a local tough guy. A bodybuilder, arm wrestler, and iron worker who hosted these Tough Man-like competitions for iron workers and other local tough guys. It started at iron workers picnics and evolved into an event at local high school gyms. Ferrarro seemingly cut Carr out of the picture (later brought him back) and it took off from there. It's fascinating.
It also focused more on 2nd tier gladiators who had a harder time post-show. Thunder (or Thor) was a mess from injuries and drugs. Malibu the same, but way more functional. Gemini was not as upbeat as he was in the Netflix doc. Said he missed his family. Sabre seems like an asshole. Ice hated that some of them liked Ferrarro. No doubt Ferrarro ripped them off, but Ice has no objectivity.

I remember when Billy Wirth and the black gladiator got into a tussle. He's mentioned in both shows. I would not have recognized him by name, but immediately recognized him from The Lost Boys.
