Remarkable man. DVD distributor Vinegar Syndrome have just introduced a new line, the 'Late Night Classics' series I think it's called, hopefully intent upon restoring the kind of obscure movies Gilbert Gottfried once introduced to viewers on 'Up All Night'. I have Volume 1 on order.

I have Volume 1 on order. We didn’t get ‘Up All Night’ where we were, but I have heard Gilbert talk about it on Howard Stern. Gilbert made over a hundred appearances on Stern spanning 25 years and they’re being put on Youtube. They’re great, and many are real classics. There is also a good documentary about him which is on YT. Gilbert’s podcast is good too. He interviewed many old stars.

Those political comics like Bill Maher and Greg Gutfeld admired Gilbert Gottfried. For me, it was the musicians, film directors and performers who admired him, and sometimes befriended him, that I choose to remember.
I didn't see 'Up All Night' here in U K but it was referenced a lot in printed media and I've since seen some of the wraparound skits and sketches online. Like certain channels here, I've read they would cut movies, so you were probably best getting an original copy if at all possible.

Gilbert was strange in that although he was willing to do any job and was so frugal, he couldn’t help but say the most outrageous things that would get him in trouble and lose lucrative contracts. I thought he was really funny here on Celebrity Wife Swap.

I suspect it may be a sad by-product of the comedy scene.
Richard Pryor, for me the greatest stand-up of all time, believed you could observe he was physically strait-jacketed through his body language in his early tv appearances where he towed the line, so the counterculture collaborators he gained on the independent scene backed a release.
Cheech & Chong, for me the greatest comedy duo of all time, were chalk and cheese in this regard. Tommy Chong was a born rebel who couldn't even play in a band without calls to have him banned for this, that or the other. Cheech Marin on the other hand seemed as comfortable performing diluted within the mainstream as he was on operating the fringe.
