You can glean enough to make some reasonable assumptions, the obvious one that jumps right out at me is that this piece is in Fortune, the magazine for wealthy who normally wouldn't print articles that piss and moan about poverty, but since Trumps looking to reign in immigration naturally they'll go that route when it makes a (kinda sorta?) counter point to the President. I mean really, I don't know what this guys point even was. Nobody denies shitty stuff happens in the USA. All things considered, if you are truly concerned about the growing number of poor in the US and concentration of wealth in the hands of a few, cut out importation of millions of new workers, driving down wages and driving up home prices. His point was we should be a socialist country who takes money away from the rich and takes care of everybody. Fortune magazine I believe is a big business magazine. They are right-wing. This guy is left-wing. I am surprised this article came out of Fortune magazine. I must confess though, I don't read Fortune magazine. I disagree with your solution to rich and poor. Immigrants help the economy. Not hurt it. But unlike this guy, I don't want to take care of lazy people --- citizen or illegal. I believe if you work and follow the law, you should be promised basic necessities. But if you are a lazy piece of shit, I don't care if you live or die. Immigrants hurt the economy, exclusively. They lower the cost of labor for rich people, and create a social burden for taxpayers. It’s a double whammy for wealth inequality. Divide and conquer.

Fence sitting is one of the great obstacles to fixing what is wrong with society. And what do fence sitters like to do? They like to navel gaze and sit on their asses and obstruct anyone else from solving any problems. Fence sitters are unable to come to terms with what is going on around them or even acknowledge that there is a problem that is effecting the lives of a lot of other people, just because everything seems to be going alright in their own lives. Which in some ways is even worse than the hard Right Wing Conservatives who often do acknowledge that there is a problem but that it is not their problem. The defense of someone who wants to obstruct but without offering any real solutions to problems. www.newsweek.com/trumps-shithole-slur-projected-trump-hotel-washington-780897?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=yahoo_news&utm_campaign=rss&utm_content=/rss/yahoous/newsSure you can laugh and carry on in a juvenile way because the president used profanity Or you could even throw your hands up and refuse to get involved because you don't want to have to deal with it, just hoping that if you ignore it it will just go away or that somehow it will just blow over and somehow not matter at all. Or you can come to terms with the fact that the president did something inappropriate that could have a negative impact on how other nations associate with the U.S. This sermon reads like it should be an offering from someone who focuses on solutions to problems instead of just bleating about how bad things are all the time. It feels like a lecture from one who shows everyone else the way forward, and yet

There have been all kinds of studies proving that immigrants are good for the economy. The do cost money because they get free stuff. But after subtracting their costs from what wealth and revenues they create, they still make money for America. Both the private sector (on creasing the profits of their employers) and public sector (taxes).

I don't know about that. Obviously this guy is a left-wing elitist. But I don't know if he is a racist. He might be. He may not be. I am not going to assume anything about him without further information. Isn't a larger issue that the attitude going back decades has been essentially to let non-urban centers wither and die with no plan beyond 'want a better life-higher education and then get the hell out as fast as possible'? You can also play the chicken or egg argument on immigration. Is it immigration lowering wages and taking jobs? Or is it that the jobs they are taking are things Americans think are beneath their dignity?

Yeah the argument that immigrants are just a drain is based on the falsities that A) they do work utterly illegally and don't pay taxes. B) they never purchase anything and don't pay taxes (impossible) and C) they're somehow all illegal and managing to participate in federal programs.

EBuzzMiller and I agree on something.
